Dhaka:State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir today urged for enhanced coordination among United Nations agencies and greater alignment of their programs with Bangladesh's Five-Year Strategic Framework for Reform and Development (2026-2031).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the call was made during a meeting with UN Resident Coordinator ad interim Carol Flore-Smereczniak at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Kobir emphasized the value Bangladesh places on its longstanding partnership with the UN and its commitment to reinforcing cooperation for shared priorities and national development.
Kobir expressed appreciation for Flore-Smereczniak's leadership in advancing Bangladesh's development goals. He also discussed the Prime Minister's key engagements during the High-Level Week of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, including a meeting with the UN Secretary-General.
The minister highlighted the need for stronger coordination among UN agencies to better align their programs with Bangladesh’s reform and development framework. On the issue of the Rohingya crisis, Kobir acknowledged the UN's humanitarian efforts and urged for continued support to facilitate the early and sustainable return of the Rohingyas to Myanmar, stressing repatriation as the only viable solution.
Flore-Smereczniak expressed gratitude for the government's ongoing support and affirmed the UN's readiness to deepen its partnership with Bangladesh. She reiterated the UN Country Team's commitment to collaborating closely with the government to tackle shared challenges.
