LAMB Commemorates 50 Years of Service and Transformation

Dhaka:LAMB celebrated its 50th anniversary with a special programme themed 'A Legacy of 50 Years' at the Festival Hall of the Radisson Blu hotel.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the event highlighted key milestones and achievements of LAMB, emphasizing its contributions to health and community development. The celebration was attended by distinguished guests, government representatives, development and technical partners, health professionals, colleagues, supporters, and friends of LAMB.

LAMB operates various programmes funded by Women's Hope International, Children's Investment Fund Foundation, and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). The event featured several prominent speakers, including Dr Mohammed Jakaria, Director General of the NGO Affairs Bureau, who served as the chief guest. Other notable guests were Dr Mohammad Eunus Ali and Dr Rawshan Zahan Akhter Alo from the Institute of Public Health Nutrition Bangladesh.

Dr David Chandran, LAMB's Executive Director, delivered the welcome address. Stacy Saha, a volunteer from LAMB USA, presented on LAMB's achievements over the past 50 years. A video documentary titled 'A Legacy of 50 years' was shown, highlighting LAMB's activities and accomplishments in Bangladesh.

LAMB's notable achievements include partnerships and innovations focused on maternal, child, and women's health in rural areas. Dr Hafiza Khatun, a Fistula Surgeon at LAMB Hospital, presented on the 'Stop Suffering Female Genital Fistula Project', stressing the importance of treatment and rehabilitation for affected women. Dr Luise Tina Day from LSHTM spoke on the 'MAMI Care Pathway project'.

UNICEF Bangladesh's Health Manager Dewan Md Emdadul Haque moderated an open discussion session where speakers praised LAMB's health-related services and contributions to community development in northern Bangladesh. Dr Mohammad Yunus expressed gratitude for LAMB's work in eradicating fistula and supporting malnourished mothers and children.

Dr Zakaria, the chief guest, noted that LAMB's 50th anniversary is a significant milestone and a model for the healthcare sector. He recommended expanding LAMB's activities further. The event concluded with closing remarks and a vote of thanks from Helen Manisha Sarkar, a board member of LAMB.
