Kushtia:An assistant professor at Azampur Technical College suffered severe injuries after being allegedly assaulted with a hammer and iron rods by a local Jubo Dal activist and his followers in Mirpur upazila on Monday afternoon. The attack, reportedly linked to a land dispute and extortion demands, occurred at the Naoda Azampur intersection as the professor was returning home.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the victim, Md. Mokhlesur Rahman, was attacked around 1:30 p.m. by a group led by Mizan, a Jubo Dal activist. The group included individuals identified as Roni, Kamal, Intu, Biplob, Hasan, Sagar, Mohi Kha, and Mithu. Mokhlesur was left critically injured on the road after the assault.
Locals quickly responded by rescuing Mokhlesur and transporting him to Kushtia 250-Bed General Hospital for treatment. Mokhlesur, who is currently recovering in the hospital, stated that a court case concerning the land dispute is ongoing. He claimed that Mizan had demanded Tk 5 lakh in extortion money from him, and the attack was a premeditated attempt to kill him after he refused to pay.
Shahidul Islam Shahid, the Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Police Station, confirmed that the police are taking the necessary legal actions in response to the incident.
