Two Men Sentenced to Life for Heroin Possession in Naogaon

Naogaon:A local court has sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment following their conviction in a drug case involving the recovery of heroin.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the verdict was delivered by Additional District and Sessions Judge-III and Special Tribunal-4 Judge Sukanta Saha, who also imposed a fine of Taka 10,000 on each convict. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment.

The convicts are identified as Md Harun, 42, from Krishnapur village, and Tuel, 45, from Santospara village, both located in Niamatpur upazila. While Harun was present in court for the ruling, Tuel remains at large.

The case originated from an incident on October 26, 2014, when police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid in the Chhatra Bazar area of Niamatpur. During the operation, they recovered 60 grams of heroin from Tuel and 40 grams from Harun. Additionally, a red 150cc Pulsar motorcycle used by the accused was seized.

The charges against the duo were filed under Section 19 of the Narcotics Control Act, 1990. After a thorough investigation, including statements from three witnesses, the court reached its decision, as confirmed by Public Prosecutor Advocate Shawkat Elias Kabir.
