Dhaka:State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam emphasized Bangladesh's ambition to become a global manufacturing hub, aiming to attract foreign investors at the upcoming Commonwealth summit.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shama Obaed Islam made these remarks during a meeting with Arif Zaman, Executive Director of the Commonwealth Businesswomen's Network, held at the foreign ministry. The discussions were centered on promoting Bangladesh as an appealing investment destination at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM), scheduled for November 2026 in Antigua and Barbuda.
The meeting explored strategies to present Bangladesh to potential investors as a nation known for policy continuity and stability, with a strong ambition to establish itself as a manufacturing hub. Discussions also included strengthening agriculture and rural enterprises, exploring sustainable opportunities within the blue economy, and increasing investment in renewable energy and the circular economy.
Additionally, the meeting covered the Commonwealth Women's Forum, which will occur alongside CHOGM. The forum is seen as a platform to empower women entrepreneurs and help them achieve their full potential, showcasing Bangladesh's investment opportunities and fostering deeper engagement with international investors.
