Prosecution to Appeal for Harsher Sentence for Hasanul Haque Inu

Kushtia:The prosecution of the International Crimes Tribunal is preparing to file an appeal this week, seeking a harsher sentence for Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal President Hasanul Haque Inu. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for crimes against humanity related to the July-August 2024 mass uprising.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, prosecutor Gazi MH Tamim confirmed that the appeal will be submitted to the Supreme Court this week to request an increase in the sentence previously given to Hasanul Haque Inu.

The ICT-2 convicted Inu, a former Information Minister, on June 30, 2026. He was sentenced for his involvement in the killing of six people in Kushtia during the 2024 July Mass Uprising. He received 10 years of rigorous imprisonment under charge No. three, and 10 years in jail with a fine of Taka one lakh under both charges No. six and No. seven. The fines are to be paid to the victims as compensation.

The tribunal's verdict specified that all sentences will run concurrently, resulting in a total of 10 years of imprisonment for Inu.
