Khulna and Rajshahi Shine as 28th National Cricket League Begins

Khulna:The 28th edition of the National Cricket League (NCL) commenced today with Khulna and Rajshahi making impressive starts in their respective matches. The tournament has introduced several changes this year to present a more professional image, including special caps for captains and suits for the toss, reminiscent of Test match traditions.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Khulna's young batter Kalam Siddiki Aleen narrowly missed out on a century, scoring 92, as his team reached 328-5 against Barisal at the Khulna Divisional Stadium. Captain Mohammad Mithun supported with 89 runs, forming a crucial 150-run partnership for the third wicket. Wicket-keeper Nurul Hasan Sohan added 47, while Afif Hossain remained unbeaten on 44. Barisal's Ruel Mia was the standout bowler with figures of 3-38.

In Mirpur, defending champions Rangpur Division faced a challenging day against Dhaka, ending at 229-6. Openers Mim Mosaddek and Anik Sarkar provided a strong start with a 114-run partnership. However, disciplined bowling from Dhaka, including two wickets by Anamul Haque, restricted Rangpur's progress. Captain Akbar Ali scored 26, while Chowdhury Mohammad remained unbeaten on 38 at stumps.

Rajshahi Division concluded the day at 290-6 against Chattogram at the Bir Shrestha Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium. Openers Habibur Rahman Sohan and Sabbir Hossain put up a 127-run stand, with Sabbir scoring 71 and Habibur 75. Despite the strong start, Rajshahi€š¬€ž¢s middle order couldn't capitalize further. Chattogram's Hasan Murad and Enamul Haque Ashiq took two wickets each.

Meanwhile, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Sylhet reached 273-7 against Mymensingh Division. Opener Mahfijul Islam scored 70, while Abdul Majid's 46 helped stabilize the innings. Abu Haider Rony and captain Rakibul Hasan were at the crease at the end of the day, with Sylhet aiming for a robust total.
