Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's recent address to the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has been heralded as a significant milestone in shaping Bangladesh's future, according to international and political analysts.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the speech, which emphasized the Rohingya issue and the climate crisis, was seen as providing a vision for the country's future and a roadmap for a post-fascist Bangladesh. These remarks were shared at a Citizens' Forum, Bangladesh event held at the International Mother Language Institute.

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Mamun Ahmed, who presided over the event, praised the speech for addressing all necessary points Bangladesh needs to convey on the global stage. He noted that Prime Minister Rahman effectively communicated his political philosophy and vision for Bangladesh.

Former state minister for foreign affairs, Abul Hasan Chowdhury, speaking as the chief guest, highlighted that the speech underscored Bangladesh's new independent identity, separate from the influence of any particular country. He also called for government efforts on the Bangladesh-China-Myanmar corridor and sought Chinese assistance in resolving the Teesta water crisis.

Prof Emeritus Yusuf Haider from Dhaka University commended the government's performance over the past six months and emphasized the importance of maintaining internal law and order, addressing the energy crisis, and harnessing resources in the Bay of Bengal.

Kamrul Ahsan, former vice-chancellor of Jahangirnagar University, pointed out that the prime minister's call for the repatriation of Rohingyas to Myanmar with citizenship is the most effective resolution to the crisis. Speakers also noted the boldness of Rahman's decision to make his first visits to Malaysia and China and to meet separately with Iran at the UN.
