Dhaka:A court has placed Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami leader Major (retd) Akhtaruzzaman on a one-day remand in connection with a case related to disorderly conduct, obstructing government officials, and assaulting a security official at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Alberuni Mir issued the remand order after police presented Akhtaruzzaman in court, requesting a five-day remand for further investigation.

The incident leading to the case occurred when a 34-member delegation from the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, arriving from Medina, faced a trolley shortage due to congestion at the airport. Allegedly, protocol assistants attempted to bypass the queue system to collect trolleys, resulting in agitation among the delegation members.

Akhtaruzzaman, a former lawmaker, reportedly verbally abused and threatened HSIA Executive Director Group Captain SM Ragib Samad and also verbally and physically abused Warrant Officer Mohammad Kamal Uddin, a security supervisor. The case was filed by Mohammad Shahriar Alam Sajib, a security officer at the airport.
