Amman:The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs has allocated Tk 9.49 crore from the 2026-27 fiscal year budget to cover the costs of burial, cremation, and transportation of the bodies of freedom fighters.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the allocation was announced in an order issued by the ministry's budget wing on September 29. The funds will be released to Deputy Commissioners (DCs) and Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) across the country.
The funds, drawn from Tk 18 crore allocated for burial grants under the honorarium allowances for wounded and other freedom fighters, are part of the special operational budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. District and upazila administrations will withdraw the allocated funds from their respective accounts offices, with the Chief Accounts and Finance Officer requested to send the necessary authority to the relevant offices.
The order specifies that the released amount will be adjusted against the designated burial grant allocation in the current fiscal year's budget. The funds must be used exclusively for the cremation, burial, and transportation of freedom fighters' bodies, in compliance with government financial rules and regulations. Disbursing authorities will be accountable for any irregularities.
Any unspent funds after June 30, 2027, must be returned to the designated government treasury account, with the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs informed accordingly. The ministry has instructed DCs of all 64 districts and all UNOs to take necessary measures. The order was signed by Deputy Secretary (Budget) at the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs, Dr. Md Asaduzzaman.
