Solar Panel at PM’s Residence Contributes to National Grid

Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has installed a solar panel on the rooftop of his Gulshan residence, which is supplying 1,200 units of electricity to the national grid.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam announced this initiative, highlighting that the Prime Minister is utilizing 1,000 units of solar-generated electricity for his residence. This effort sets an example in producing and utilizing solar power and plans are underway to install solar panels on rooftops of government buildings to meet their electricity needs and supply surplus power to the surrounding areas.

The state minister emphasized viewing the electricity production process as a business during a review meeting titled "Solar Electricity, Dengue Prevention and Development Programme Review Meeting" at the Cooperative Building in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar. The meeting saw participation from all Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) and DD (LG) officials, with Local Government Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan and State Minister for Public Administration Abdul Bari in attendance.

Mir Shahe Alam urged UNOs to remain vigilant ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja to prevent any disorder. He also instructed them to ensure local government elections are conducted freely, fairly, and impartially, with full support from the government. Furthermore, he encouraged UNOs to provide financial assistance to the extreme poor if necessary funds from the Ministry of Public Administration are unavailable, with arrangements to allocate funds from the revenue sector.

The state minister highlighted the role of UNOs in supervising significant government projects at the local level, including the implementation of farmer cards, family cards, imam-muezzin cards, and canal excavation. He also discussed the BNP government's commitment to women's empowerment and political measures. Additionally, he stressed the importance of reducing groundwater pressure by increasing surface water supply from rivers and ponds.
