Magura:Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury today called on the youth to remain united and vigilant against extremism, communalism, and social degradation.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister emphasized the role of healthy cultural practices in freeing society from harmful influences. He stated that the Ministry of Cultural Affairs has collaborated with various ministries and institutions to engage young people in cultural activities.
The remarks were made during the inauguration of the first Community Police Kabaddi Championship-2026 at the historic Nomani Maidan. Nitai Roy Chowdhury highlighted the significance of traditional rural sports and folk traditions, such as kabaddi, dariabandha, and boat races, which have been part of Bengal's culture for millennia. The ministry is working to promote these traditional sports among the populace.
He also underscored the importance of showcasing sports like boat racing to the younger generation, as they are deeply linked to the lives and culture of riverine Bangladesh. The minister praised the police not only as protectors of security but also as active participants in public welfare programs. He noted that sports and cultural activities organized by the police could strengthen the relationship between the police and the community.
Nitai Roy expressed gratitude to Bangladesh Police for hosting such an event, describing it as timely and community-focused. The event was attended by Lawmaker Advocate Newaz Halima Arly as the guest of honor, with Magura Superintendent of Police Molla Azad Hossain presiding.
Magura Deputy Commissioner Motakabbir Ahmed, Zilla Parishad Administrator and Magura District BNP Convener Ali Ahmed, and Magura Municipal BNP President Masud Hasan Khan Khizil also participated in the program as special guests.
Earlier, the cultural affairs minister laid the foundation stone for Shaheed Minar at the historic Nomani Maidan.
