Feni:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman arrived in Feni today for a daylong visit, where he will participate in several official engagements, including the inauguration of the Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage, and Irrigation Project Rehabilitation (Phase I) in Parshuram.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister's arrival was confirmed as his motorcade reached the district at around 1:15 PM. He is scheduled to return to Dhaka in the evening after completing his official duties.
During his visit, Prime Minister Rahman will inaugurate the first phase of the flood control project at the Kheyaghat-Muhuri Bridge area near Parshuram upazila, followed by a meet-and-greet session with local residents. The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) had approved this project on June 16 at an estimated cost of Tk 1,542.16 crore, aiming to enhance flood control and irrigation capabilities in the region.
The Prime Minister will also travel to Fulgazi, where he will partake in a tree-planting event at Begum Khaleda Zia Women's College. Additionally, he will visit the Fulgazi District Council Dak Bungalow to inaugurate the connection of electricity to the national grid from a rooftop solar power system installed there.
In the afternoon, he will attend a program at the Fulgazi Government Pilot High School ground. During this event, Family Cards will be distributed to 510 people, and Farmer Cards to 7,643 individuals across the district. Honorariums will be provided to 238 imams, muezzins, khadims, and priests in Fulgazi. The Prime Minister is also scheduled to address a public gathering at the same venue.
The Muhuri-Kohua project aims to rehabilitate embankments, protect riverbanks, and re-excavate rivers and water bodies, with completion expected by 2030. The project includes plans for additional embankment construction and rehabilitation in subsequent phases. Moreover, solar systems with a capacity of 962.5 kilowatts have been installed on government buildings across the upazilas of Fulgazi, Parshuram, and Chhagalnaiya.
