Chittagong Hill Tracts Minister Advocates Reviving Natural Fountains for Water Security

Dhaka:Chittagong Hill Tracts: The CHT Affairs Minister, Sa Ching Prue, emphasized the importance of reviving natural fountains to address the shortage of safe water in the hilly areas and ensure sustainable water sources for local communities.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation from the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD) at his office. He highlighted that providing access to safe and reliable drinking water in the CHT is a key development priority.

The minister praised ICIMOD's efforts, particularly through the HI-CAS project, to tackle local water shortages and support the rejuvenation of fountain sources. He promised full cooperation from the ministry to ensure the successful implementation of the project.

The meeting also included discussions on enhancing cooperation in climate adaptation, water security, and sustainable development in the region. A strong emphasis was placed on improving coordination among relevant ministries, ICIMOD, local institutions, and development partners to invest in climate adaptation tailored to the needs of hill communities.

The ICIMOD delegation included Bangladesh Country Focal Mahmood Al Haque Patowary, HI-CAS Senior Project Coordinator Jessica Emily Fullwood, and Country Project Officer Toufiqul Islam. Additional Secretary of the CHT Ministry Monirul Islam also attended the meeting.
