Feni:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman departed for Dhaka after a daylong visit to Feni, where he participated in various programs and inaugurated significant infrastructure projects aimed at improving flood control, drainage, and irrigation in the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister's visit included the inauguration of the Tk1,542.16-crore Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project Rehabilitation (Phase I) at the Kheyaghat-Muhuri Bridge area in Parshuram. This project, approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on June 16, aims to enhance flood protection and irrigation facilities in the region by constructing embankments, protecting riverbanks, and re-excavating rivers and water bodies. Scheduled for completion by 2030, it will involve building 67.92 kilometers of flood-control embankments, protecting 11.73 kilometers of riverbanks, and rehabilitating 27 irrigation structures, among other tasks.
During the visit, Prime Minister Rahman also initiated the planting of saplings and the excavation of a canal as part of the project. He further engaged in river dredging and embankment construction by operating a dredger at the site.
In Fulgazi, he inaugurated a tree-planting program at Begum Khaleda Zia Women's College and distributed sports equipment to students, emphasizing the importance of physical activities alongside academic pursuits. The Prime Minister later visited the Fulgazi District Council Dak Bungalow, where he launched rooftop solar power systems for government buildings in Fulgazi, Chhagalnaiya, and Parshuram. These solar systems, with a combined capacity of 960.8 kilowatts, were developed to supply electricity to the national grid, supporting the government's renewable energy goals.
The Prime Minister concluded his visit by attending a program at Fulgazi Government Pilot High School, where he distributed Family Cards and Farmer Cards to local residents and provided honorariums to religious leaders. In Fulgazi alone, 510 people received Family Cards, and 7,643 individuals across Feni district are set to receive Farmer Cards. Honorariums were given to 238 imams, muezzins, khadims, and priests.
Future phases of the Muhuri-Kohua project will include further embankment construction and rehabilitation work along the Silonia River, in addition to new embankments along the Muhuri and Kohua rivers. The visit highlighted the Prime Minister's commitment to infrastructure development and renewable energy initiatives in the region.
