Professor Rafiqul Islam Appointed as RAKUB Chairman

Rajshahi:Professor (Retired) Rafiqul Islam has taken on the role of Chairman of Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB), as announced by the Financial Institutions Division, Ministry of Finance.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rafiqul Islam is a well-known economist, professor, and writer from Bangladesh who has significantly contributed to higher education and research. His extensive career in teaching and research has earned him recognition as a respected academic figure.

Throughout his career, he has held various key administrative roles at renowned universities, including Rajshahi University, where he began his teaching career in the Department of Economics in 1977. He served with distinction as a professor and was the Vice-Chancellor of Islamic University, Kushtia from 2004 to 2006.

In addition to his academic responsibilities, he has been a Council Member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities and the Chairman of the Association of Universities of Bangladesh. He also served as a member of the Senate and Syndicate of Rajshahi University.

Born in 1950 in Telihara, Bogura Sadar Upazila, Rafiqul Islam comes from a respected Muslim family. He completed his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Economics in 1970 and 1971, respectively, from the University of Rajshahi, and later earned an MPhil degree in 1977. He is a father to two sons and one daughter.
