Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Highlights Bangladesh’s Interests at UN Assembly

Dhaka:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman emphasized Bangladesh's national interests and the country's democratic progress during his recent visit to the United States for the 81st United Nations General Assembly. According to Mahdi Amin, the Prime Minister's Adviser and PMO Spokesperson, Rahman's presence at the UN marked a significant step forward for democracy, as he represented a government elected by the people on the global stage.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Mahdi Amin described Rahman's visit as historic, noting it involved extensive activities including 30 official programs and numerous informal engagements over four days in the United States. The Prime Minister held bilateral meetings with 11 countries, delivered multiple speeches, and addressed the Rohingya crisis, proposing plans for repatriation that garnered international appreciation.

The visit underscored Bangladesh's commitment to global diplomacy, with the Prime Minister advocating for partnerships and trade to promote self-reliance and inclusive development. Discussions during bilateral meetings focused on building relations based on equality, justice, and dignity, reflecting Bangladesh's determination to enhance its standing in the international arena.

In his UN address, Rahman presented Bangladesh's stance on the Rohingya issue, proposing solutions for safe and dignified repatriation and calling for international support. The international community recognized Bangladesh's humanitarian efforts and the democratic government's commitment to assisting the Rohingyas.

Mahdi Amin highlighted that Tarique Rahman's participation in the UN as a leader from a democratically elected government marked a new chapter in Bangladesh's history, continuing the legacy of his family members who previously represented the nation on the global stage.
