Mirpur:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir called on police personnel to provide public services with professionalism and a service-oriented mindset during a workshop on Wednesday.
According to United News of Bangladesh, IGP Fakir made these remarks while inaugurating a two-day workshop focused on developing a 'Community Policing Policy' at the Police Staff College Bangladesh in Mirpur. He emphasized the importance of building public trust through people-oriented policing and transforming it into effective partnerships.
Highlighting the role of regular communication and cooperation between police and the community, IGP Fakir noted their significance in crime prevention and ensuring public safety. He underscored the necessity of community and beat policing in addressing juvenile delinquency and conducting anti-drug operations.
Additionally, IGP Fakir mentioned the '1st Community Policing Kabaddi Tournament-2026,' which aims to identify and nurture talented players from across the country, contributing to forming a national kabaddi team. He stressed that such initiatives help connect police with diverse societal segments.
The workshop was chaired by Kazi Md Fazlul Karim, Rector of the Police Staff College Bangladesh, who presented a keynote paper on reforming community and beat policing to make it more preventive, accountable, and intelligence-led. Discussions and field-level experiences shared during the event are expected to lead to practical recommendations for institutionalizing community policing.
Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md Sayedur Rahman and Vice-Rector Dr Md Abdus Sobhan participated in the discussions, providing insights into enhancing the effectiveness of community and beat policing. Community Affairs Officers and other relevant police officials are actively participating in the workshop.
