Kushtia:A schoolteacher was detained in Daulatpur upazila on Wednesday after allegedly making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during a classroom session.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Golam Kibria Lalon, a Bangla teacher at Pragpur Secondary School, was taken into custody from the Bheramara-Pragpur regional highway area around 11 am. The incident allegedly occurred on Tuesday during a Grade 10 Bangla class when a discussion about the Prime Minister's recent Bangla-language speech at the United Nations took place.
Students claimed that Lalon criticized the Prime Minister's Bangla pronunciation and made objectionable remarks, causing discontent among them. The students reported the incident to their guardians, leading to widespread discussion in the community.
On Wednesday morning, a group of guardians and local residents gathered at the school to demand action against Lalon. The police arrived at the scene to manage the situation and subsequently detained the teacher.
School Headteacher Ashrafuzzaman Mukul stated that Lalon was questioned about the accusations in the presence of the school's former chairman and other relevant individuals. Lalon denied making any derogatory comments.
Officer-in-Charge Khaledur Rahman of Daulatpur Police Station noted that the incident has sparked discussion and tension in the area. He mentioned that further legal action would be taken following an investigation into the allegations.
