Dhaka:Customs officials at the Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Dhaka have intercepted a shipment consisting of 1,980 drones, weighing 658 kg and valued at nearly Tk 1 crore. These drones were falsely declared as rechargeable remote-control toys.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the discovery was made during a physical examination of the consignment imported by Mim Collection of Chawk Bazar, Dhaka. The National Board of Revenue (NBR) released a statement confirming the incident.
The examination of the consignment, imported under Bill of Entry No. 12367 dated September 27, was prompted by a tip-off received by Customs House ICD Commissioner Kazi Muhammad Ziauddin. The inspection took place on September 29, revealing the concealed drones among other declared toys.
Customs authorities stated that they would recover the revenue and applicable fines related to the imported drones. Further action is contingent upon verifying the flying range of the drones and examining relevant documentation.
Strict measures are being considered against those involved, in accordance with the Customs Act 2023 and other relevant regulations. Commissioner Kazi Muhammad Ziauddin emphasized that Customs House ICD, Dhaka, is committed to enforcing import policies and preventing revenue evasion, in alignment with directives from the NBR chairman. The authorities are currently reviewing the consignment and associated documents to assess the violations and determine appropriate legal actions.
