Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Inaugurate Muhuri-Kohua Project in Feni

Feni:Prime Minister Tarique Rahman is set to visit Feni on Thursday, marking his first visit to the area since assuming office. Throughout the day, he will participate in several programs in Parshuram and Fulgazi upazilas.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the Prime Minister will depart from his residence in Gulshan at 830 am, heading to Parshuram upazila by road. At approximately 1230 pm, he will inaugurate the rehabilitation of the Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project (Phase I) near Parshuram and the Kheyaghat Ghat-Muhuri Bridge area.

Following the inauguration, Tarique Rahman will participate in a tree-planting event at Begum Khaleda Zia Women's College in Fulgazi at 130 pm. He will also visit the Fulgazi District Council Dak Bungalow to inaugurate the operation of a rooftop solar power system contributing electricity to the national grid. Afterward, he is scheduled to rest and pray at the Dak Bungalow.

Later in the afternoon, at 330 pm, the Prime Minister will attend a program at Fulgazi Government Pilot High School. The event will involve the distribution of Family Cards and Farmer Cards, as well as honorariums for mosque imams, muezzins, khadims, and workers at other religious sites.

The Muhuri-Kohua Flood Control, Drainage and Irrigation Project (Phase I) was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on June 16, with a budget of Tk 1,542.16 crore. The project aims to rehabilitate 67.92 kilometers of embankments, protect 11.73 kilometers of riverbanks, re-excavate 83.50 kilometers of rivers and water bodies, and renovate 27 irrigation structures, alongside constructing 77 inlets.

Future plans for the project include constructing new embankments along the Muhuri and Kohua rivers, as well as along the Silonia River, with excavation and rehabilitation efforts expected to be completed by 2030. The Prime Minister's visit, originally scheduled for September 17, was postponed and rescheduled for October 1.
