Thakurgaon:Nomination papers for all six candidates, including two from the BNP and one from Jamaat-e-Islami, have been validated for the Thakurgaon-1 by-election scheduled for October 29.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Thakurgaon District Election Officer Md Kamrul Islam confirmed the validity of the nominations following a scrutiny session at the district election office. The candidates include BNP-nominated district BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, district BNP Vice President Obaidullah Masud, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Delowar Hossain, Islami Andolan Bangladesh candidate Md Khademul Islam, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan candidate Md Abdul Alim Nizami, and Bangladesh Congress candidate Hussain Muhammad Omar Faruk.
Md Kamrul Islam stated that representatives from five political parties submitted nomination papers, all of which were accepted. He emphasized efforts to ensure a fair election with the involvement of candidates, law enforcement, and relevant parties.
The election schedule set by the Election Commission outlines October 7 as the deadline for withdrawing candidacies, with electoral symbols to be assigned on October 8.
Previously, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected MP from Thakurgaon-1 in the national parliamentary election on February 12, defeating Jamaat's Delawar Hossain. The seat became vacant when Mirza Fakhrul was elected as the 23rd president of Bangladesh.
