Dhaka:Police Headquarters Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has instructed field-level police officers to implement stringent legal actions against drug traders, terrorists, and extortionists, emphasizing the irrelevance of political identity in criminal activities.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the IGP's directives were issued during the monthly crime review meeting for August 2026 held at the Police Headquarters. He reiterated the force's 'zero tolerance' policy towards drugs and called for active public participation through community policing to combat drug-related activities.
The IGP also emphasized taking legal actions against juvenile offenders and ensuring security for the peaceful and safe celebration of the upcoming Durga Puja. He urged officers to prevent the spread of rumours and misinformation during the festival.
The meeting was presided over by Additional IGP (Crime and Operations) Md Sayedur Rahman, who instructed officers to gather information about juvenile gangs and identify any influential individuals behind them. He stressed the importance of developing individual security plans for the Durga Puja and the proper use of body-worn cameras by police personnel.
Sayedur Rahman highlighted the effective use of community policing to maintain law and order and urged police personnel to uphold professionalism. The meeting included participation from metropolitan police commissioners, range DIGs, and superintendents of police who joined virtually.
Discussions covered the overall crime situation in August 2026, addressing major incidents such as robbery, dacoity, murder, rape, attacks on police, and abduction cases. Other topics included pending arrest warrants, investigation outcomes, and conviction rates.
