Joypurhat:A local court has sentenced Hamidul Sheikh, 55, to life imprisonment for the rape of a class VIII schoolgirl. The verdict was delivered by Judge Abdur Rahman of the Joypurhat Women and Children Repression Tribunal.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the court also imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on Hamidul Sheikh, with an additional six-month jail term if he fails to pay the fine. The assault took place on March 27, 2025, when Hamidul tied the girl's mouth with a scarf and violated her.
He continued to abuse the girl repeatedly while threatening her to keep silent. The incident came to light when the girl's family noticed she was pregnant. Subsequently, on August 19, 2025, her father lodged a complaint with the Panchbibi Police Station.
The police filed a chargesheet against Hamidul Sheikh on September 30, 2025, leading to the court case and his eventual conviction.
