Malaysian Doubles Pairs Advance in Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Quarterfinals

Ichinomiya:Aichi-Nagoya Malaysia's national professional men's doubles pair, Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani, are on the brink of securing a medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after advancing to the quarterfinals with a straight-set victory over Japan's Yugo Kobayashi and Takuro Hoki.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the match, held at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium, saw the Malaysian pair claim a 21-19, 21-16 win without major issues. They will face either China's Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang or Thailand's Chaloempoen Charoenkitamorn and Worrapol Thongsa-nga in tomorrow's quarterfinal round.

In contrast, another men's doubles team from Malaysia, Aaron Chia and Tee Kai Wun, were eliminated after losing to South Korea's top-ranked pair, Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae, in straight sets of 21-19, 21-16.

In the women's doubles category, Pearly Tan and M Thinaah advanced after defeating Thailand's Napapakorn Tungkasatan and Hathaihip with scores of 21-8, 21-12. They are set to compete against India's Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly, who caused an upset by defeating a Japanese pair 24-22, 21-18.

In the men's singles event, Malaysia's Justin Hoh did not progress to the quarterfinals, losing to Singapore's Loh Kean Yew 21-14, 21-14.
