Jakarta:Harimau Malaya's recently naturalised midfielder Manuel Hidalgo is optimistic about Malaysia's prospects as they face Indonesia in their second FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 Division 1 Group A match at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Monday.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Hidalgo, originally from Argentina and playing for Johor Darul Ta'zim, acknowledged the strength of the Indonesian team but expressed confidence in Malaysia's ability to secure a positive outcome. He emphasized the importance of focusing on their own performance to achieve success.

Hidalgo, who debuted internationally in Malaysia's 3-0 victory over Bangladesh, described wearing the Harimau Malaya jersey as an honor for himself and his family, highlighting his gratitude towards Malaysia for the opportunities it has provided him.

Similarly, Bergson da Silva, a naturalised forward, also recognized Indonesia's capabilities but underscored that Malaysia did not come to Jakarta to succumb to the host's pressure. The 35-year-old, who scored on his debut against Bangladesh, stressed the importance of capitalizing on every opportunity in the match against Indonesia.

Both Malaysia and Indonesia have three points each from their opening matches, and the outcome at GBK could significantly influence the race for a spot in the final. Malaysia is set to conclude their group stage against Singapore in Bandung, while Indonesia will play against Bangladesh at GBK.
