Shah Alam:The 30th edition of the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) 2026 is poised to begin, featuring three challenging highland finishes that promise to test the endurance of the competitors.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the race will cover a distance of 1,285.5 kilometers over eight stages along Peninsular Malaysia's west coast, starting in Shah Alam and concluding in Putrajaya on October 4. This year's edition is notable for its three summit finishes, including the debut of the Gunung Jerai ascent on Stage 2, designed to offer a more aggressive challenge compared to last year's route.

The legendary climbs of Cameron Highlands and Genting Highlands will return on Stages 4 and 5, respectively, reinforcing their status as the ultimate tests for cyclists. Budget constraints have kept the route on the west coast, excluding the island of Langkawi for this edition.

Despite the absence of Langkawi, the competition remains fierce with 20 elite teams participating, including two WorldTeams XDS Astana from Kazakhstan and Picnic PostNL from the Netherlands. They will face competition from eight ProTeams and nine Continental teams, including local teams Terengganu Cycling Team and Malaysia Pro Cycling, alongside the Malaysian national squad.

For the home teams, achieving podium success is paramount, with a focus on Muhammad Nur Aiman Rosli, who narrowly missed a stage win last year. Local attention will also be on Tsen Ren Bao and Kee Zhe Yie, who aim to improve their standings.

This edition also highlights organisational stability, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Malaysian National Cycling Federation maintaining leadership roles. Tomorrow's Stage 1 from Shah Alam to Kampar will cater to sprinters before the race heads into the hills, culminating with the final stage from Muar to Putrajaya.
