Rangpur:An awareness-raising meeting focused on dengue prevention and cleanliness was held at Kohinoor Begum High School in Pirgachha upazila, organized by the Rangpur Regional Information Office. The event aimed to promote the "Dengue prevention and cleanliness campaign 2026" and the "Dengue mosquito eradication programme."
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chief guest of the event, Pirgacha Upazila Secondary Education Officer Md Taher Ali, highlighted the breeding habits of Aedes mosquitoes, which thrive in clean and clear water. He advised regular disposal of stagnant water from containers such as flower pots and old tires and emphasized the importance of keeping water containers covered.
Md Taher Ali also stressed the importance of maintaining cleanliness in home courtyards and surrounding areas to prevent mosquito breeding. He encouraged collective action, urging people to check for water accumulation in neighbors' areas and ensure those areas are kept clean.
Special guest and Headmaster of Kohinoor Begum High School, Md Alamgir Hossain Pramanik, remarked on the importance of putting knowledge into practice to maintain cleanliness and prevent dengue. He noted that awareness starts with individuals and can expand to families and communities.
Senior Information Officer Md Shahjahan Ali underscored the role of public awareness in dengue prevention. He advised seeking medical attention if symptoms like fever or skin rashes appear and reiterated the need to prevent water stagnation to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds. Addressing students, he advocated for personal protection against mosquito bites and raising awareness within their communities.
The event was attended by President of Parul Union BN Md Rezaul Islam, along with teachers and students of the school, who participated in the discussions on building a dengue-free Bangladesh.
