Dhaka:Bangladesh and Australia engaged in discussions to fortify military cooperation between their armed forces during a meeting held today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting took place in Dhaka Cantonment at the Armed Forces Division and involved Australia's Deputy Chief of Army, Major General Chris Smith, and Prime Minister's Defence Adviser, Brigadier General (retd) Dr. AKM Shamsul Islam.
During the discussions, both parties emphasized the significance of Bangladesh-Australia's longstanding bilateral relations, focusing particularly on enhancing cooperation between their military forces. The meeting, described as cordial, included exchanges on improving professional capabilities, bilateral training programs, technical cooperation, and strategic communication.
Additionally, there was a mutual emphasis on increasing participation in advanced military training and skills-development programs to tackle the challenges posed by modern warfare. Major General Smith commended the professionalism and contributions of Bangladesh's armed forces to United Nations peacekeeping missions and showed interest in expanding cooperation in advanced training and experience-sharing for peacekeepers, aiming to bolster global peace and stability.
The Defence Adviser acknowledged the positive progress in bilateral relations and military cooperation and expressed hope that Major General Smith's visit would further strengthen the professional ties between the Bangladesh Armed Forces and the Australian Army.
