Dhaka:Bangladesh is currently evaluating potential high-level visits by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to Trkiye, Japan, and Saudi Arabia in the coming months of October and November. These discussions follow his recent participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the invitations from Japan and Saudi Arabia are being considered for separate bilateral visits. Additionally, the Prime Minister has been invited to attend COP31 in Antalya, Trkiye, which is scheduled from November 9 to 20.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir met with Trkiye's Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan in New York during the UN General Assembly session, where they discussed COP31 and the potential participation of the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Japan has extended an invitation for an official visit at a mutually convenient time, indicating a desire to strengthen bilateral relations with Dhaka. Preliminary discussions suggest a likely visit by the Prime Minister to Japan in the last week of October, although final arrangements are yet to be confirmed.
In April, Bangladesh endorsed a Japan-led initiative to tackle energy issues within the Asian region, emphasizing regional cooperation. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman participated in an online meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi as part of this initiative.
Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud has also invited the Prime Minister to visit Saudi Arabia. The invitation, delivered by Saudi Ambassador Dr. Abdullah Zafer H bin Abiyah, aims to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional and international issues. Plans for the visit are tentatively set for November, pending finalization of dates.
Additionally, there is speculation that Prime Minister Rahman may visit India in November or early December. Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Dinesh Trivedi expressed optimism about the potential visit, highlighting the importance of direct meetings to resolve issues and strengthen relations between the two nations.
During his time in New York, Prime Minister Rahman held meetings with the leaders of seven countries, including Trkiye, Iran, and Pakistan, alongside his participation in the UN General Assembly.
