Khulna:Police have arrested eight individuals linked to a gun attack on the home of the general secretary of the BNP's Ward No. 28 unit in Khulna city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the arrests took place during a police raid in the Ria Bazar area of Harintana under Labanchara Police Station between 2am and 4am on Saturday. The arrestees include six juveniles, who were sent to the Juvenile Development Centre (Boys) at Pulherhat in Jashore, while the two adults were sent to Khulna District Jail following court orders.
The incident occurred on September 25, when a group of individuals allegedly opened fire on Manjurul Alam's house at Islamia intersection in front of Mawla's house in Tutpara, Khulna city, while chanting "Joy Bangla". In addition to the gunfire, the attackers allegedly vandalized a motorcycle parked outside the residence.
Following the attack, Manjurul Alam filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act at Khulna Sadar Police Station, naming seven individuals and accusing several unidentified others. The arrested individuals have been identified as Raj, Fahim Khan, Arafat Islam Nahid, Yamin Sheikh, Sujan Islam, Maharaj Molla, Mohammad Ali, and Md Shuvo Islam.
Officer-in-Charge of Khulna Police Station Md Lokman Hakim stated that the police were able to apprehend the suspects after collecting and examining CCTV footage from the vicinity of the attack.
