Dhaka:Bangladesh A significant surge in dengue cases has been reported in Bangladesh, with 2,158 new cases identified in the past 24 hours, marking the highest single-day figure this year. Six additional deaths have also been recorded.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the recent fatalities have increased the total number of dengue-related deaths in the country to 225 for the year, while the cumulative number of infections has risen to 73,694. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) provided these statistics.
Among the recent deaths, two occurred in the Khulna division, while Barishal, Chattogram, Dhaka divisions, and Dhaka South City Corporation each reported one death. Throughout the year, the gender distribution of deaths shows that 46.4 percent were men and 53.6 percent were women.
Earlier, on September 8, the country had recorded its highest single-day death toll from dengue, with nine fatalities. Additionally, the previous highest daily number of cases was reported on September 14, with 1,733 hospitalizations.
To date, 68,006 dengue patients have successfully recovered and been discharged from hospitals, as confirmed by the DGHS.
