Rajshahi:The Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) has distributed 265 tree saplings to three educational and religious institutions in the city. This distribution is part of RCCI's ongoing tree plantation program, which aims to combat climate change and promote a greener environment.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the saplings, consisting of mahogany and various fruit-bearing varieties, were distributed in the fourth phase of the program. The initiative, organized by the RCCI Board of Directors for the 2026-2028 term, was held under the theme "Let's decorate the country with tree plantation, Bangladesh first."
The saplings were handed over to the authorities of Mission Girls' High School, Court Academy, and Court Mosque for planting on their premises. RCCI President Hasen Ali emphasized the importance of planned and extensive tree planting to mitigate climate change effects and protect the city's environment. He highlighted the increased urgency for tree planting following recent severe heatwaves and encouraged the business community and the public to plant at least one tree to contribute to building a healthy and livable city for future generations.
The RCCI stated that the program would continue with plans to plant saplings along major roads and bypasses, at educational institutions and madrasas, and in vacant spaces across the city. The event was attended by RCCI Senior Vice President Shamsur Rahman Shanto, Vice President Engineer Ziauddin Ahmed, and Directors Md Rezaul Karim, Md Golam Saklain, and Md Farhad Hossain.
