Gazipur:A tragic accident in Tongi, Gazipur, resulted in the deaths of a woman and her son, while her daughter-in-law was seriously injured when a speeding covered van ran over them on Sunday afternoon.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the victims were identified as Ayesha Khatun, aged 45, and her son Yasin, aged 22. Yasin's wife, Arzina, aged 19, sustained severe injuries in the incident.
The accident happened near Station Road of Tongi Flyover. The family members were returning to their rented home in Nimtoli, Tongi, after attending a wedding ceremony in Muktagacha, Mymensingh. After disembarking from a bus at Station Road, they were standing on the footpath when the van lost control and struck them.
Local residents promptly rescued the injured and transported them to Tongi Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master General Hospital. Yasin was pronounced dead upon arrival, while Ayesha Khatun succumbed to her injuries during treatment. Arzina is currently receiving medical care at the hospital.
Authorities, with the assistance of local individuals, managed to detain the van and its driver as they attempted to flee the scene. Officer-in-Charge Maksudul Alam of Tongi East Police Station confirmed that the bodies have been sent to the hospital morgue and legal proceedings related to the accident are ongoing.
