Netrakona:Two young children tragically drowned in separate incidents in different ponds located in Kalmakanda and Purbadhala upazilas of the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the victims were identified as Tayeba, an 18-month-old girl from Shingkata village in Rangchhati Union of Kalmakanda, and Amir Hamza Taskin, a 16-month-old boy from Purbapara village in Khalishaur Union of Purbadhala upazila.
Tayeba fell into a pond near her home around 10 a.m. while playing in the courtyard. Her disappearance prompted a search by family members who eventually found her in the pond. She was taken to Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex, where she was pronounced dead by the attending physician. The incident was confirmed by Sohel Rana, Officer-in-Charge of Kalmakanda Police Station.
In a separate incident, Amir Hamza Taskin fell into a nearby pond while playing outside his house unnoticed by his family. His cousin, Mahfuzul Haque, discovered his body floating in the pond around 1:50 p.m. Relatives retrieved the child and rushed him to Purbadhala Upazila Health Complex, but he was declared dead upon arrival. Abdullah Al Mamun, Officer-in-Charge of Purbadhala Police Station, confirmed that the child drowned after falling into the pond.
