Narsingdi:Secretary General of Nirapad Sarak Chai (Nischa), Liton Ershad, emphasized that government ministries and agencies are actively pursuing various initiatives to enhance road safety nationwide.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ershad highlighted the government's efforts to re-establish order on roads and highways, noting that initiatives in Dhaka are already showing positive results. He discussed these efforts at a meeting held by the Narsingdi district committee of Nischa in Madhabdi.
Ershad explained that AI-powered cameras have been installed at key locations in the capital, promoting better compliance among drivers by imposing fines on traffic violators. However, he stressed that road safety requires more than just enforcement; it demands the involvement and responsibility of drivers, pedestrians, transport owners, and workers.
He further mentioned the importance of coordinating efforts among agencies and increasing awareness among road users. A road accident can have devastating effects on families, making it imperative for everyone to contribute to road discipline.
Ershad also pointed out the significance of Narsingdi district due to its proximity to the capital, noting ongoing awareness programs by Nischa members. He acknowledged that development projects in Narsingdi have disrupted traffic and called for enhanced government measures to improve the skills of transport workers.
Additionally, he suggested the creation of separate lanes for three-wheelers on highways to significantly reduce accidents. Meeting participants agreed that road safety is a shared social responsibility, urging drivers to follow traffic rules and pedestrians to use designated crossings.
The meeting concluded with a resolution to observe National Safe Roads Day on October 22, underscoring the importance of preventive measures over reactive ones.
