Dhaka:Two under-trial prisoners from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased were identified as Mohammad Iftekhar Mahmud, 36, and Mohammad Tofozzal Hossain Palash, 38. Iftekhar Mahmud, the son of Mahbub Alam from Pirerbagh in Mirpur, fell ill inside the jail on September 19 and was taken to the hospital on the same day. He was admitted to the Medicine Department and died around 9 p.m. on Wednesday.
Tofozzal Hossain Palash, the son of Ali Hossain from the Bagbari area under Darus Salam Police Station, also fell ill and became unconscious inside the jail on Wednesday night. He was transported to the hospital around 10:30 p.m., where he was declared dead by the on-duty doctor at around 11:30 p.m.
The prison authorities have not disclosed the charges or cases for which the two men were detained. Inspector Md Habibur Rahman, in charge of the DMCH police outpost, stated that the bodies are currently at the hospital morgue awaiting autopsies.
