Cumilla:Police have detained 624 teenagers and young adults in a coordinated operation targeting teen gangs across the Cumilla district.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Additional Superintendent of Police Lutfur Rahman stated that teenagers and young people have recently been implicated in various criminal activities, which have negatively impacted society. The operation was carried out simultaneously under all 18 police stations in the district, including several areas within Cumilla city and locations where reports of harassment by unruly youths have surfaced.
Senior officials from the district police actively participated in the operation. The previous criminal involvement of the detainees is currently under investigation, and appropriate legal actions will follow. In a related incident, 28 youths were detained as suspects in Daudkandi, Cumilla, during a daylong operation on Wednesday.
However, around 10 p.m., 22 of these youths forced their way out of the police station, chanting slogans. A video showing the commotion involving the youths and their guardians outside the police station has been circulated online. Officer-in-Charge of Daudkandi Model Police Station, Mohammad Sajedul Islam, downplayed the incident, stating that there was no major issue. He explained that the 28 youths were initially detained for loitering, and when their relatives gathered, it led to some crowding. By around 10:30 p.m., 22 of the youths were released into the custody of their guardians, while the remaining six are still under investigation.
