Dhaka:A court in Dhaka has ordered Obaidur Rahman, the maternal uncle of Mariam Khatun, to be held in jail in connection with her alleged suicide. Mariam was the second wife of Satkhira-4 Member of Parliament Gazi Nazrul Islam. According to United News of Bangladesh, the order was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam following a request from Inspector Mohammad Salauddin of the Detective Branch's Tejgaon zonal team. No bail application was submitted for Obaidur Rahman. Evidence reportedly indicates Obaidur's involvement in Mariam's death, necessitating his detention for the ongoing investigation. Mariam's body was discovered hanging in Gazi Nazrul's flat within the NAM Bhaban, a residence for lawmakers in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar, on Sunday evening. Following the discovery, Mariam's father filed a case against Gazi Nazrul, his first wife Maksuda Begum, and Obaidur Rahman for allegedly abetting her suicide. Gazi Nazrul is currently on remand, while Maksuda is also in jail.
