Dhaka: President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called upon the authorities of National University (NU) to formulate an employment-oriented curriculum. "The National University must prepare its curriculum in line with the employment demands at home and abroad to face the challenges of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and stop creating unemployed youths," he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the President made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation led by NU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM. Amanullah at Bangabhaban. The President's Press Secretary, Sarwar Alam, informed that the Vice-Chancellor briefed the President on NU's initiatives aimed at providing employment-oriented education, modernizing syllabuses, and enhancing overall academic activities.
The Vice-Chancellor also sought cooperation to improve the dignity, professional opportunities, and welfare of university teachers. In response, the President assured his support, emphasizing that the present government is committed to improving the quality of education at the National University, developing skilled human resources, and enhancing the capabilities of teachers.
Highlighting the importance of skill development, the President urged the introduction of short-term courses in technology, technical education, health services, and ICT under the NU. These courses would cater to the labor market demands in developed countries, potentially increasing overseas employment opportunities.
Additionally, the President suggested the phased establishment of performing arts colleges in every district to expand educational opportunities. As the Chancellor of the NU, he accepted an invitation to attend the university's convocation as the chief guest. Relevant secretaries, along with the university's Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Treasurer, were present during the meeting.
