Dhaka: The minister of the Communist Party of China Central Committee's International Department has shown interest in visiting Bangladesh before the year concludes. Outgoing Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen revealed this intention during his farewell meeting with State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as stated in a release by the foreign ministry.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ambassador Yao mentioned that the IDCPC minister has significant ties with Bangladesh, given that his father previously served as China's ambassador to the country, presenting his credentials to then-president Shaheed Ziaur Rahman. During the discussion, State Minister Kobir commended Yao's efforts in enhancing Bangladesh-China relations and highlighted his role in facilitating Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's visit to China.
Kobir noted that bilateral relations had advanced to the Shared Community level during Yao's tenure, with new mechanisms, such as a state minister-level 2+2 dialogue, on the horizon. Ambassador Yao expressed his gratitude for serving in Bangladesh for over three years and assured continued Chinese support for Bangladesh's development initiatives.
He congratulated Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on his election as President of the United Nations General Assembly, noting it as a significant achievement for Bangladesh. Kobir voiced optimism about the future of Bangladesh-China relations, extending his thanks to Ambassador Yao for his service and wishing him success in his future endeavors, hoping for future encounters.
