Manikganj: Police arrested 15 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League (AL) and its associate organisations in separate drives across four upazilas of the district last night. The drives were conducted in Singair, Saturia, Shibalaya, and Daulatpur upazilas, as confirmed by the district police.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the individuals arrested include Md Ershad Hossain, 54, the general secretary of Ward No. 7 of Betila-Mitora Union Awami League; Sabash Ali Sardar, 38, president of Chandahar Union Swechchhasebak League; and Chhatra League activists Emon Ahmed, 20, Robin Sheikh, 24, and Nazrul Islam, 20, all from Singair upazila.
From Saturia upazila, the arrested include former joint secretary of the District Chhatra League Md Shahinur Islam, 30; Tilli Union Awami League Vice President Md Monir Hossain, 50; Agriculture and Cooperative Affairs Secretary Abdul Awal Ansari, 47; and Tilli Union Jubo League activists Md Rafique Mia, 45, and Sarker Kobir Uddin, 65.
In Shibalaya upazila, police apprehended Chakmirpur Ward No. 8 Awami League Treasurer Md Ariful Islam, 38, and Dhameshshar Union Krishok League President Rashed Mia, 46.
In Daulatpur upazila, the former Chhatra League Vice President Md Shahidul Islam, 30, and Md Sumon Mia of Purbo Shimulia were among those nabbed. The police stated that all arrested individuals were produced before the court today.
