Rajshahi: Through traditional rituals, a two-day Karam festival of the plain-land small ethnic groups was celebrated at Rajshahi University (RU) to worship the god of power, youth, and youthfulness, known as Karam Devta. Beginning on Friday evening, at the RU Central Shaheed Minar, the festival ended on Saturday evening with the immersion of Karam tree branches.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, on the occasion of the festival, a procession paraded around the campus on Saturday morning. Later, a discussion meeting and cultural program were held. The indigenous students of the plains at RU organized this festival.
At the discussion meeting organized on the occasion of Karam, the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Faridul Islam, emphasized the importance of modern education. He noted that in today's world, one will fall behind if not educated in modern education.
Professor Islam urged the small ethnic groups of the plains to ensure their boys and girls receive education in schools, colleges, and universities. He highlighted that everyone has equal rights in Bangladesh and encouraged leaders of small ethnic groups to focus on education. He called upon all small ethnic groups to come forward for that goal.
