Chattogram: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain has said strict action will be taken against anyone obstructing pedestrian movement in the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, CCC has intensified its regular eviction drives to keep footpaths accessible to pedestrians. As part of this effort, the Mayor personally oversaw the removal of several makeshift stalls that had encroached footpaths in the Panchlaish area.
During the operation, the Mayor was present on-site and ordered the removal of businesses occupying the footpaths. Several makeshift stalls were evicted, clearing the way for unobstructed pedestrian movement.
Speaking during the drive, Mayor Hossain said, "Footpaths are meant for the movement of city residents. No business activities of any kind will be permitted on the footpath. CCC's eviction drives will continue to ensure unhindered movement for pedestrians," he added.
He emphasized that keeping footpaths free of encroachment is essential for the city's aesthetics and smooth movement of citizens. The Mayor warned that punitive measures would be taken against anyone who re-occupies footpaths for business purposes after eviction.
He further urged all stakeholders, including business owners, to cooperate with the City Corporation's ongoing cleanliness and anti-encroachment initiatives for the benefit of city residents, and called on everyone to refrain from setting up new structures or shops on footpaths.
