Sylhet: Police arrested seven leaders and activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League after they attempted to organize a torch procession under the organization's banner in Osmaninagar upazila of the district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mostofa of Osmaninagar Police Station stated that the banned student organization Chhatra League attempted to conduct a torch procession in the Kashikapan Teromile area under Dayamir Union of Osmaninagar Police Station on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 10 pm on Friday. A police patrol team, upon receiving information about the attempt, intervened and initially detained three individuals.
Further operations conducted later that night resulted in the arrest of four more individuals. The arrested individuals are identified as Sabbir Ahmed Biplob, 26, from Tukerbazar area under Jalalabad Police Station; Sufian Ahmed, 26, from Kazirgaon Badaghat area; Nahid Hasan, 21, from Sheikhghat area under Kotwali Police Station; Hridoy Pal, 20, from Paitpara Shivbari area under Dakshin Surma Police Station; Md. Ruhel Arman, 26, from Jawa Kapon village in Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj; Md. Ramjan Hossain, 26, from Ashurail village under Nasirnagar Police Station in Brahmanbaria; and Md. Tofazzal Hossain, 25, from Kunta village under the same police station.
OC Mostofa mentioned that after completing legal procedures, the arrested individuals were sent to jail through the court.
