Dhaka: The traffic division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) today filed 4,407 cases against vehicles for violating traffic rules during the last two days in the capital. The cases were filed as part of the DMP's regular enforcement campaign carried out on Thursday and Friday aimed at ensuring traffic discipline, reducing congestion, and improving road safety across the city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the DMP said such drives against traffic law violators will continue, urging motorists and pedestrians alike to comply with traffic regulations to help maintain order on the roads. It was reported that the DMP traffic police dumped 1,019 motor vehicles and towed 581 vehicles during the campaign.
During the drives, the Traffic-Ramna Division filed 129 cases, including six against buses, one truck, six covered vans, 10 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 39 motorcycles, according to a media spokesperson of the DMP. The spokesperson noted that the Traffic-Lalbagh Division filed 201 cases, including 11 against buses, eight trucks, three covered vans, 27 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 108 motorcycles, while Traffic-Motijheel Division filed 556 cases against 33 buses, three trucks, 30 covered vans, 109 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 282 motorcycles.
Meanwhile, the Traffic-Wari Division filed 507 cases, including 60 against buses, 44 trucks, 30 covered vans, 65 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 172 motorcycles, while the Traffic-Tejgaon Division filed 346 cases, including 10 against buses, one truck, five covered vans, 53 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 158 motorcycles.
In addition, the Traffic-Mirpur Division filed 962 cases, including 77 against buses, 50 trucks, 73 covered vans, 127 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 358 motorcycles, while the Traffic-Uttara Division registered 1,105 cases, including 60 against buses, 56 trucks, 31 covered vans, 141 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 485 motorcycles. The Traffic-Gulshan Division filed 601 cases, including 51 against buses, nine trucks, 17 covered vans, 59 CNG-run auto-rickshaws, and 228 motorcycles.
The drives were conducted as part of the DMP's ongoing efforts to enforce traffic laws and ensure discipline on the city's roads, the DMP release added.
