Chattogram: Prime Minister's Defence Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam and Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Khondker Misbah-Ul-Azim today inspected two visiting Chinese naval ships, TANG SHAN and DA QING, at Chattogram Port.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh, senior Bangladesh Navy officials, and senior officials of the Chinese Embassy were present during the inspection, as per an ISPR release issued tonight. During the visit, the defence adviser toured various sections of the ships, where he was briefed on their modern naval equipment, security arrangements, and operational activities.
He also engaged in discussions with the commanding officers, officers, and sailors of the ships, focusing on the existing friendly relations between the Bangladesh and Chinese navies. Topics of mutual trust, professional knowledge, experience sharing, and various areas of cooperation were addressed. The discussions further emphasized enhancing regional maritime cooperation and expanding military training and naval collaboration.
The Chinese naval ships TANG SHAN, DA QING, and TAI HU arrived at Chattogram Port on September 17 for a five-day goodwill visit to Bangladesh. This visit has paved the way for professional knowledge and experience sharing between the two navies. Such engagements are anticipated to foster expanded cooperation in joint training, naval security, addressing maritime challenges, and other professional fields.
Additionally, the visiting Chinese naval ships are scheduled to partake in a joint Passage Exercise (PASSEX) with the Bangladesh Navy as they depart from Bangladesh's waters, the ISPR noted.
