Munshiganj: Four people were killed when a passenger bus collided head-on with a private car on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway in Gazaria upazila of the district today. The deceased were identified as private car passengers Mujibur Rahman, 55, Shamima Akter, 45, and Sabiha Chowdhury, 40, and the car driver Sohel, 25.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the accident occurred around 2.45 pm in the Baluakandi Highway Police Point area of Gazaria upazila. Deputy Director of Munshiganj Fire Service and Civil Defence Mohammad Shafiqul Islam reported that the crash took place when the private car, after exiting Miami Restaurant, was making a U-turn to head towards Dhaka and collided with a Dhaka-bound bus.
The car driver, Sohel, was killed instantly in the accident. The injured passengers of the private car were promptly rescued and taken to Hamdard Medical Hospital. However, doctors declared Mujibur Rahman, Shamima Akter, and Sabiha Chowdhury dead upon arrival.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhoberchar Highway Police, Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, stated that the bodies of Mujibur Rahman, Shamima Akter, and Sabiha Chowdhury were kept at Hamdard Medical Hospital, while Sohel's body was kept at Bhoberchar Health Complex.
