Dhaka: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu announced today that his ministry is revitalizing the rural economy through a series of development and social safety-net programmes. The minister emphasized that these initiatives aim to channel financial resources to marginalized communities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister highlighted several key programmes, including KABIKHA (Food for Work), KABITA (Cash for Work), TR (Test Relief), GR (General Relief), VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding), and canal excavation projects. These efforts aim to stimulate economic activity at the grassroots level, ensuring that financial aid reaches those who need it most.
Minister Dulu made these remarks while inaugurating the Conference-26 of the District Relief and Rehabilitation Officers (DRRO) and Project Implementation Officers (PIO) at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh. He stressed the importance of canal excavation as part of the government's electoral commitments, underscoring its potential to transform rural life by enhancing agricultural opportunities during dry seasons and improving water drainage during monsoons. The initiative also seeks to promote fish cultivation and tree planting along riverbanks.
In his address, Minister Dulu announced that the Prime Minister will formally inaugurate the Model Canal programme on November 19, 2026. The event was also attended by State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M. Iqbal Hossain, who urged vigilance among officials to ensure that no funds allocated under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) are returned or wasted.
Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Saiful Islam presided over the programme, with Director General of the Department of Disaster Management Rezwanur Rahman delivering the welcome address. The conference saw participation from DRROs and PIOs from across the country.
