Satkhira: Two minor boys drowned in a pond in Sonatola village under Dakshin Sripur union of Kaliganj upazila in the district today. The deceased were identified as Abdullah, aged 8, son of Azgar Ali of Sonatola village, and Iqbal Hossain, aged 7, son of Aminur Biswas of Baliadanga village.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Kaliganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Shahinur Rahman confirmed the incident and stated that police had been dispatched to the location. He added that the bodies would be handed over to the families following the completion of the legal process.
Locals reported that Iqbal was visiting his maternal grandfather's house in Sonatola village. During the Friday Jumma prayer, while family members were attending prayers, Iqbal and his maternal uncle Abdullah played beside a pond owned by Abubakkar Sheikh near the house. When the family could not locate the children, they searched for them and eventually discovered their bodies floating in the pond.
The tragic incident has left the community in mourning as they come to grips with the loss of the two young lives.
